Join Docomomo US/Chicago and the Cliff Dwellers club for an evening of architecture. The Edith Farnsworth House: Architecture, Preservation, Culture tells the story of one of the most famous residences of the 20th Century. Designed by German émigré architect Mies van Der Roh for Dr. Edith Farnsworth, the glass and steel marvel “floats” above its site on the Fox River in Plano, IL. The program will discuss the book, which sheds new light on the key role of Edith Farnsworth as patron. Author Michelangelo Sabatino will share his deep expertise on modernist architecture, along with excerpts of Edith Farnsworth’s unpublished memoir. The book also includes photographs by Hedrich Blessing, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Annie Leibovitz, and was published in association by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
A reading of memoir excerpts by Patricia Saldaña Natke will be accompanied by conversation with architect and AIA Gold Medal recipient Carol Ross Barney, FAIA, HASLA. Signed books by the author will be available for purchase.
