Join Docomomo US/Chicago for an exclusive members only tour of the current restoration project of Mies van der Rohe's McCormick house at the Elmhurst Art Museum. Project architect Heidi Granke, AIA, will give an overview of the project followed by a tour of the work in progress.
In 1952, the celebrated architect Mies van der Rohe, designed a home for Robert Hall McCormick III and his wife, the poet Isabella Gardner. The home is a rare and important example of Mies van der Rohe’s mature style, incorporating elements of his designs for the Farnsworth House (1951) and 860-880 Lake Shore Drive (1951). The McCormick house is one of only three Mies designed single-family houses constructed in the US. The house is now undergoing a multi-faceted restoration program beginning with the reconstruction of the attached carport. More information on the McCormick house here.
