Join Docomomo US/Chicago for an exclusive members-only* event on the southern shores of Lake Michigan. Our 2nd annual Summer picnic will be held this year at the historic Armco-Ferro house in Beverly Shores, Indiana.
Built for Chicago’s 1933-34 “A Century of Progress” World’s Fair, the Armco-Ferro “Mayflower” house was a prototype for an affordable, mass-produced house. Although the design is based on the traditional American four-square, the structure and facade are made almost entirely of steel.
Adjacent to G.F. Keck’s House of Tomorrow and the Florida house by R.L. Weed, the Armco-Ferro house is part of a group of houses that were moved to Beverly Shores after the World’s Fair concluded and today make up the Century of Progress Architectural District.
• BBQ Luncheon included (meats, vegetables, sides, and beverages).
• Meet the current homeowners of the Armco-Ferro house and learn about their restoration project
• Exterior tours of other Century of Progress houses with Todd Zeiger of Indiana Landmarks
